Townsville to lose the equivalent of a high school of students (700) in jobs per year

These graphics are about job loss over a 5-year period for the state of Queensland and its major cities. With the speculation of jobs losses in the media it is critical to understand this clearly and gain some insights about the changes.

The graphic highlights the data decreases in the region of Queensland, Australia and it is evident that Townsville has the highest in job losses.

A cumulative amount of 2700 jobs will be lost during a 5-year period across all industries.

This does not mean necessarily that the GDP will decrease, as there is evidence in the data that shows a massive increase in health professional jobs- which generally have high incomes.

There is an indication that many of the industries in Townsville are decreasing in size and this would indicate a shrinking economy. It could also indicate that the economy is shifting from being based on mining to a modern knowledge-based economy.

The job loss provides evidence that the city is not growing economically and requires decisive action for the city to remain

The Health Care and Social Assistance Industry will increase by 6100 jobs and the education sector will increase by 5100 jobs respectively over this period.

The information is critical to the understanding of how services and industry changes will require changes of skills that may need to be brought into the city or trained by the education institutes.
